Frequently Asked Questions on Diagnosis

Waiting lists can be lengthy so aim to secure referrals quickly. Be proactive in following up on appointments, test results, and referrals.

Can I get a quick diagnosis?

The diagnostic process for Endometriosis takes time and while it’s natural to seek a cure for the condition, it’s important not to add undue pressure.

Clinicians may work with other specialists for a more comprehensive assessment of your symptoms which may delay diagnosis. Due to a lack of resources, appointments can take from up to 6 months to a year. It’s usually possible to get seen sooner.

Who do I contact for a diagnosis?

Contact a physician who’ll evaluate your symptoms, conduct initial assessments, and guide you toward any necessary referrals. Try your best to stay engaged during the process.

Prepare for your visit by listing your symptoms and how this impacts your life. Advocating for your health is crucial and this process can be challenging, try to prioritise self-care and symptom management.

Which tests can diagnose Endo?

Physical examinations of the pelvis can be used to identify abnormalities or tenderness. MRIs or ultrasounds can also detect Endometriotic lesions or cysts.

Blood tests and biopsies are used to collect tissue samples to confirm the presence of endometrial tissue, and a laparoscopy, (minimally invasive surgery) also allows for a visual examination of the pelvic area.
